The City of Wells 2016
Wells, in the county of Somerset, United Kingdom, is the smallest city in England, with a population of around 20,000 people. It is an ancient cathedral city – the huge cathedral was built around 1100 AC. It is also famous for its Bishop’s Palace and Gardens, surrounded by a moat, which is populated by swans that are trained to ring a bell to ask for food.
The wells that give their name to the city are located within the Palace gardens; they receive water from subterranean streams coming down from the Mendip Hills nearby.
